Wintering Wrights

See, here, how this grateful family kicked off our holiday celebrations this year!…
My mom did so in the Big Apple, visiting afore Thanksgiving her favorite away location.
What a treat it was to have my brother, Trevor, make an extra visit for Thanksgiving and our dad's birthday, one and the same this year!
And as Christmas drew near, we knew sweet times were approaching!
Hard to say it is, truly…
…who wore it better?
On Christmas morn, many hugs and kisses were shared…
…stockings opened…
…and bows dislodged and placed anew!
Old holiday friends rediscovered.
And nEw ones hidden in plain sighT.
A California Christmas is never too cold for a stroll.
Decked in new finery.
Have a safe and happy New Year out there, ya great big old world, you!

…on the Wright foot!

Here's how Ewan and I are starting things off: with our first family build of two of the Egyptian pyramids of Giza, just one of the light-up (and optionally sound-activated) designs in the National Geographic Landmarks & Archaeology set for Laser Pegs that he got for Christmas.
Then we stepped out to explore a new park in our area.
Happy New Year!

New Years Scrabble

Standard cutthroat rules with special tiles and using Yume's English/Japanese dictionary as the final judge, I manufactured a come-from-behind win with 140 points (averaging more than 15.5 points per round). It was the most exciting match we've played as a family yet. Dad came in 2nd with 122 points, though he led most of the game with early plays of 26 and 50 points in consecutive rounds. Yume came in 3rd with 94, and Mom (who blamed her tiles) brought up the rear with 85.

Akemashite Omedetou!

A Christmas/New Year's visual mash-up! (Bonus and selected parent copies below, or check out what you missed.)
Yume and Pops.
Rollin' in a limo.
O-shareta!
Vampin' on New Year's Eve.
Super freakin' cute!
Sugar castle, go!
We young-uns three.
I get my game on, courtesy of The Legend of Drizzt board game, with old pal, Aaron, and his two boys, Keith and Garret.
Fuji-san peaks above the clouds beneath the wing as I return to Japan.
And so, from us to you, may 2012 be a blessing; full of peace and joy!

An Aussified Christmas - Crickey!

Now, let me take you into the wild side of my trip to Australia.

I gave the koala a little back rub to help ease his digestion.
Here's one without that big-nosed creature.
The kangaroos at the Symbio Wild Life Park were left to wander an open paddock where people could touch and feed them at their leisure. Considering how much the 'roos enjoyed the shade, I'm surprised none of them mistook me for a tree.
A peacock rests on its regal perch, surveying both sides of the fence.
A pair of sweet little birdies captured in all their colorful splendor through the mesh of their enclosure.
Okay, so it's not a real animal. Still cool, though! Found it outside the Sydney Hospital in the downtown area.
Now, here are some party animals! (from left to right) It's Wendy, her brother Scott, and his girlfriend, Jess, gathered here before we went out for a little fine dining and drinking.
The Holy Grail of Margaritas! (Thing's the size of my head!)
Miiiight need a little help here.
Atta' girl! What a trooper!
Was someone conducting nuclear tests to the left of me while I was eating again?
"Aww, shucks!"
Our New Year's digs at Club Menai.
The live band rocked the dance floor with a who's-who of Motown covers including everything from The Pointer Sisters to Lady Gaga.
While tearing up the dance floor, I got close enough to snap this shot of the three lead singers for the band. It was hot stuff! Literally. Like, I was sweating so much my shirt was practically see-through. At one point, a fellow dancer asked me if I was part of the show. I smiled big but said nothing; let my moves do the talking.
So few identifiable pictures of this creature exist, and some even say it can only be seen once a year when enough imbibed wine coaxes its unchecked nature into being. (Needless to say, when I wasn't wearing my tie around my forehead with my shades on, this is how I looked on New Year's. At least, I think that's me. ;)
